The Little Mermaid is an animated children's film of the year 1989, based on the story of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, produced by Walt Disney and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The Little Mermaid lives in an underwater kingdom with her father, the king of the sea; her grandmother; and her five older sisters, each born one year apart. When a siren turns 16, she is allowed to go up to look at the surface world, and when each of the sisters is old enough, they visit the surface once per year.
