Leader of the CDU and until yesterday a candidate to German Chancellery for the German Christian Democratic Party, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, announced yesterday her resignation from the chancellor's candidacy as well as retiring from the CDU presidency. The leadership of the Minister of Defense of Angela Merkel had again been in question after what happened in Thuringia and the call to order from South Africa by Angela Merkel. Even so, the announcement has taken the party by surprise and the CDU is now at a crossroads about its future.
